I think it would be great to promote one-on-one "consults" somehow. Create a space at lunch or a time slot where people could connect with someone who could help them answer a question they had or solve a problem they are facing. This might require some talented person who could do the match-making based on some registration-table info gathering about questions and areas of expertise, or it could be more open.

Along these lines, maybe table signs over lunch could be used to gather birds of a feather groups to eat together

Also, it would be great to have some way to get the latest schedule board to be visible in the room you are in when a session ends...thus avoiding the "hike back down the hall to the schedule board, then return late to your next session"  - Maybe via the conference website or miniatures tacked up near the workshop room doors or via a smartboard that sends pics or something...

Video "screencasts" room where newbies to a particular topic could gather to watch particularly good videos introducing current platforms or popular languages. This could be good for those times when no sessions seems to really fit your interests...you could wander over there and choose a tutorial to view with other folks or on your own.
